In the spirit of compassion and kindness, the University of Baguio School of Nursing, through the S.A.L.U.N-A.T. initiative, extended help and support to the victims of a devastating fire that struck Philex Mines, Camp 3, Tuba, Benguet, on March 3, 2025. The incident left 14 households comprising 35 individuals displaced, leaving them with no choice but to leave their homes and essential belongings.
In response to the catastrophe, a donation drive was conducted by the School of Nursing, calling on students, faculty, alumni, and community members to contribute in kind, such as clothing and footwear. Good Samaritans responded to the call, including UBSN alumna Ms. Melissa Palongyas and community donors Ms. Iane Ray Palongyas from Loakan Proper and Mr. Lance Adrielle from Guisad, who shared much-needed clothing items.

On March 9, 2025, a dedicated team of faculty members, namely Ms. Nazzi Baguio, Mr. Jerome Changitan, Ms. Josephine Bacasen, and Ms. Aissa Pater, together with 2 other volunteers, personally delivered the collected donations at the Incident Command Post in Philex Mines. The turnover of goods was conducted in the presence of fire victims and Barangay Kagawad Bernard Tirso Sabelo, ensuring that the aid reached those in need.
The activity employs the core values of the University and its commitment to community service and disaster response. The S.A.L.U.N-A.T. initiative continues to strengthen partnerships and extend a hand in the face of adversity. Indeed, compassion and action can bring hope and healing to affected communities.
