Ohio, USA — Breanna Ulatan, a 4th-year Nursing student and varsity swimmer from the University of Baguio, has been named Associate of the Month for June 2025 at Kalahari Resort’s Waterpark in Ohio, where she is currently completing her internship through the Summer Work and Travel Program.

She received the honor for her outstanding performance, commitment to safety, and the positive energy she brings to both guests and teammates. The announcement was made during the team’s “Promise Time” morning huddle in July 2025, and the official recognition frame was publicly posted in August.

“On the day I found out I was named Lifeguard of the Month, I felt a mix of shock, happiness, and pride,” Breanna said. “I was genuinely surprised because I never expected to receive the award. At the same time, I was deeply happy and proud because it showed that my hard work and dedication had been noticed.”

Her recognition sparked celebration among fellow lifeguards, especially her kababayans from the Philippines.

“Nagulat po kami at the same time masaya po na narinig naming Associate of the Month siya. Feeling proud po dahil may kaya po kaming ipagmalaki from Philippines,” said co-lifeguard Josalyn Esmande.

Tylan Edwards, Senior Waterpark Manager at Kalahari Resorts, praised Breanna’s performance

“She adapted quickly to the role, proving herself to be reliable, capable, and full of positive energy. Being a lifeguard can be physically demanding, but Breanna handles it with a smile that never fades.

What stands out most is the vibrant energy she brings to every shift. Her presence can brighten anyone’s day, and she’s never afraid to show her true colors. Watching her grow into the exceptional lifeguard she is today has been an absolute pleasure.”

“Receiving Lifeguard of the Month is a well-deserved accomplishment and a testament to her dedication, spirit, and bright future ahead. We’re lucky to have her on the team,” Edwards added.

Since the start of the program in May 2025, several Filipino lifeguards from University of Baguio have also earned recognition through Associate of the Shift awards—further showcasing the discipline and excellence of young Filipino talents abroad. Among them are:
