Immersive Learning for Future Nurses: UB Nursing Faculty Trained in AR/VR Integration

Written by the School of Nursing (SN) staff

Ten (10) faculty members from the University of Baguio School of Nursing participated in a two-day, hands-on training on Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) in nursing education, held on October 7–8, 2025, at the University of Baguio. The training, conducted by California Metropolitan University (CMU), aimed to strengthen the faculty’s capability to deliver innovative and technology-driven instruction.

The training is part of the school’s initiative to integrate AR/VR methodologies into the nursing curriculum, supporting its commitment to deliver quality, inclusive, and future-ready education. Through immersive simulations that replicate real clinical environments and patient care scenarios, participants explored how AR/VR tools can enhance students’ clinical judgment, procedural competency, and critical thinking in a safe and repeatable learning setting.

CMU trainers facilitated interactive sessions featuring digital anatomy walkthroughs, virtual patient assessments, and the development of AR-based learning exercises designed for nursing skills laboratories. Faculty participants also experienced scenario-building activities that can be adapted to local classroom and laboratory contexts. The initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) by advancing inclusive, technology-enabled learning strategies, and SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by improving the clinical preparedness and competency of future nurses.

The University of Baguio graciously hosted the sessions, while the School of Nursing extends its gratitude to California Metropolitan University for their expertise, practical demonstrations, and valuable learning resources. The ten participating faculty members will cascade their learnings through internal workshops and collaborate with the curriculum committee to integrate AR/VR-enhanced modules into selected nursing courses and laboratory sessions. Through this initiative, the School of Nursing continues to uphold its commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and the advancement of quality nursing education.
