On October 9, 2025, a magnitude 4 earthquake broke the silence of Baguio City and nearby municipalities. Evacuation was immediately initiated following the tremors, prompting a surge of people across affected areas and resulting in several casualties. Without hesitation, the University of Baguio student nurses spread their wings and extended their helping hands to individuals in need of medical attention.
CODE WHITE ALERT: Student nurses, together with their clinical instructors who were on duty at the Cordillera Hospital of Divine Grace (CHDG), collaborated with other members of the health care team in responding to the flock of patients- A Mass Casualty Incident. In just one hour, they managed to cater to more than 120 individuals, many of whom were students who sustained injuries, fainted, experienced panic attacks, or were emotionally overwhelmed. The team worked diligently and compassionately to attend to their needs.
Meanwhile, evacuees from various schools and agencies who were at Melvin Jones were also provided with medical assistance. Student nurses, alongside the Philippine Red Cross, established a makeshift treatment area and continued to render care to individuals requiring medical attention in spite of the sudden call and limitations of resources
Indeed, the response reflected the essence of SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), and SDG 5 (Gender Equality). Truly, they embody the UB Core Values of Competence, Integrity, and Service, the spirit of compassion and dedication shone brightly in every UBian nurse.
