UB SON Delegates Set Forth to JPU, China, for Clinical Nursing Experiences Through Cultural Immersion

Advancing in the realm of public service for allied medical assistance and support, student delegates and representatives from the School of Nursing (SON) at the University of Baguio embarked on a weeks-long journey to the partnered institution of Jining Polytechnic University (JPU) for a three-month cultural immersion and skill-setting program in Shandong, China.

The international academic initiative aims to support and create opportunities for student delegates through a wider and global approach through cross-cultural learning, academic immersion, and clinical-related experiences with the university’s partnered institutions. This endeavor enables students to engage with diverse educational systems, giving notable insights to broaden their professional perspectives and develop competencies necessary for globally competitive nursing practice.

The outbound program consists of six (6) nursing student delegates along with the department dean, Dr. Helen Alalag. The program stemmed from various Chinese intensive courses, focusing on the parameters and specializations of pediatric nursing, obstetrics and gynecology nursing, and comprehensive nursing practices. All while having a traditional Chinese culture experience course to align with the students’ credentials under the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) curriculum.

Housing Relevant Nursing Practices in China

Having assisted with their assigned accommodation arrangements, campus orientation, and familiarization with student facilities, including dormitories and dining areas upon their arrival (briefed by select JPU personnel before their courtesy call), a formal meeting at the administrative hall of the university was called that showcased a presentation from Dr. Alalag. Followed by remarks from Zhongke Bole representatives and an exchange of insights and institutional experiences that are expected from the cultural immersion and student exchange program.

Academic officials from JPU expressed strong appreciation for the previous exchange experience with UB’s nursing student delegates, praising the tenured professors for their successful teaching of nursing processes and emphasizing the beneficial clinical exposure, especially when working with actual patients. JPU suggested expanding participation to between 30 and 50 students to promote international cooperation and aid in various accreditation initiatives down the line.

Giving further appreciation to the visiting students in Shandong, China, the delegates have been invited to take part in JPU’s next skills competition, Academic Mobility: Students Exchange Program, which covers a variety of academic programs and gives students the chance to demonstrate their skills abroad. 

In balancing quality education with cultural immersions that define career prospects and moments to lead in opportunities for professional growth. The exchange highlights key aspects found in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG):

    • The program contributes to the development of highly competent healthcare professionals who contribute to better health outcomes and support the global goal of ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all

    • The University of Baguio, Jining Polytechnic, and Zhongke Bole (Linyi) Education Technology Co., Ltd. collaborate to promote mutual learning, the exchange of best practices, and ongoing discussion for program enhancement. endorsed and awarded for enhanced cooperation, such as teacher exchange, increased student mobility, and cooperative academic projects

Such partnerships are essential in addressing global educational and healthcare challenges through shared knowledge and resources. The exchange brought UB along with its esteemed partners closer and, in turn, showcased institutional achievements as both universities present and lay out their programs, initiatives, and contributions to sustainable development, highlighting excellence in education, health, and community engagement.
